Hey there! Welcome back to Purposefully Green. Now that winter is truly here in upstate NY I wanted to share with you how I’m changing up my DIY all-natural beauty routine this season! I love incorporating some winter and holiday scents to my recipes to fit in with the holiday season. It feels so cozy and festive! Just because our all natural beauty routine is healthy and organic, does not mean it has to be boring! In this post I’m going to tell you my 5 favorite DIY beauty recipes for winter. These recipes not only smell like the holidays, but they also prevent a lot of common winter skin care problems. For me, that is mostly dryness and redness! I change a lot of my beauty products to make them more moisturizing and use products to help balance out sensitive skin. I hope you find these all natural beauty products as amazing as I do!

1. The first recipe I love to use during winter (sometimes even year round because it’s THAT good) Is this peppermint lip balm. It honestly reminds me a lot of burts bees with the slight mintiness that you feel when you apply it! What’s amazing about this one? If you are vegan and don’t utilize bee products, this one utilizes soy wax instead! This lip balm helps heal dry cracked lips in the winter and moisturizes for hours! The shelf life of this vegan lip balm is about 1 year and It does not need to be refrigerated! You can carry it around in your purse and not have to worry about anything going bad in there!
Peppermint lip balm:
Makes approximately 1.5 oz.
n
Ingredients:
- n
- 1 Tsp Soy wax
- 6 tsp coconut oil
- 2 tsp shea butter
- 15 drops of peppermint essential oil
n

n
Step 1: Melt wax and butter in a double boiler on low heat, once everything has melted, mix well for 2 minutes.
n
Step 2: Add your essential oil and store for about 2 minutes to ensure the oil binds to the wax and shea butter.
n
Step 3: pour into lip balm containers right away. If it begins to harden before you’ve poured, don’t panic! Just re melt it on your double boiler until well melted again.
n
Step 4: Let cool for at least 2 hours until it has completely solidified.
n
2. My second go to recipe this snowy season is this vanilla latte body scrub. I use this every time I shower in the winter to get rid of all that yucky dead dry skin. It is super invigorating in the morning because of the caffeine from the coffee! It helps brighten your skin and feel energized for the day ahead. If you’re a coffee addict like me, this body scrub will be right up your alley. It smells like a warm vanilla latte and feels amazing getting rid of your dry winter skin!

Vanilla Latte Body Scrub:

nn
Ingredients:
- n
- 1.5 cups unrefined sugar
- ½ cup of coconut oil
- 20 drops of vanilla essential oil
- 1 tbsp of coffee grounds n

n
Step 1: add sugar, coconut oil, and essential oil to a bowl. Stir well.
n
Step 2: add coffee grounds and stir well to combine.
n
Step 3 using a canning funnel, pour into mason jars or your desired storage container

3. Number three of my favorite beauty recipes would definitely have to be this vanilla mint lip scrub. During the winter my lips always suffer from the dry cold weather. They crack and chap so easily! The peppermint lip balm is super helpful but once a week I need a full reset. That’s why I use this amazing vanilla mint lip scrub. It helps get rid of all that dry skin and leaves behind velvety smooth lips that feel amazing and hydrated!
Vanilla and Mint Lip Scrub:
Ingredients:
- n
- 1 tbsp brown unrefined sugar
- 1 tbsp white sugar
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- ⅛ tsp vanilla extract
- 5-10 drops of peppermint oil

To make this DIY lip scrub, all you have to do is mix the ingredients together well. Here is how you use it:
n
Apply a small amount to lips. Rub the mixture on your lips for a minute, allowing the scrub to loosen dead skin. Wipe the scrub off with a damp cloth. Apply a lip conditioner to your super smooth lips.
n
Store extra in an airtight container.

4. I’ve been talking a lot about dry skin and that’s because in winter it is such a problem for so many people! I wouldn’t be doing this list justice if I didn’t include this rosemary and mint shampoo as number four on my list. It is my go to in the winter because it helps moisturize and heal your scalp to control dandruff.
Rosemary and Mint Shampoo:
Ingredients:
- n
- 6 Tbsp aloe vera gel
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 10 tbsp baking soda
- 20 drops of rosemary oil
- 10 drops Peppermint oil
n
n

n
Mix all ingredients in a glass container, like a mason jar and shake well before each use. Use the same amount as you would with any shampoo depending on the length of your hair. Massage into hair and scalp and rinse well. Style as usual.
n
5. Last but not least, when I’m in the shower using my rosemary mint shampoo, I also use this amazing cranberry and vanilla soap. It smells like a holiday party and feels amazing on my skin. It is super moisturizing and helps exfoliate your skin with the dried cranberries. I would be crazy to not include this as one of my top five favorite winter DIY beauty recipes. You have to try it out!
Cranberry and Vanilla Soap:
Makes approximately 4 bars
nn
Ingredients:
- n
- 1 lb shea butter melt and pour soap base (cut into 1 inch cubes)
- ¼ cup dried cranberries
- 20 drops vanilla essential oil
- 2 tbsp of avocado oil
- Silicone soap mold or muffin tins

Step 1: Cover the bottom of your soap mold or muffin tins with dried cranberries
nn
Step 2: Add shea butter soap base to a microwaveable bowl. Microwave on high for 30 seconds, and then stir. Microwave an additional 10 seconds and stir. Continue to microwave in 10-second increments, stirring in between, until the soap is completely melted.
nn
Step 3: Stir in the vanilla essential oil and avocado oil stir for 2 minutes to bind.
nn
Step 4: Pour into soap mold. Let sit at room temperature until set (about 40 minutes to 1 hour). Carefully remove from soap mold by pushing on the bottom to release the soap.
