DIY Shower Melts for Decongestion

I have terrible allergies, and because I work in a school, I get colds all the time! Which is why I wanted to try some sinus-clearing shower melts. I tried a few recipes that I found online and none of them worked. It was driving me insane! They either didn’t steam the way they were supposed to, they melted too fast, they didn’t stick together, it was horrible. I FINALLY found a recipe that, after some workshopping, worked!

nn

I felt so relaxed and decongested after showering with one of these bad boys. I now keep these stocked in my house at all times! I highly recommend trying this recipe out for yourself, especially if you have bad allergies or a cold! (even though I like using them every day!)

nn

I love that I was able to make these myself, they were super cheap and I know where all the ingredients come from! (no harsh chemicals used here folks!)

n

I included eucalyptus and peppermint essential oils to help with decongestion. I also included lemon oil because I love the scent. If you wanted you could add any other oils you want to the shower steamer recipe. (Some suggestions: tea-tree, oregano, lavender. All of these are great for congestion too!)

If you don’t suffer from constant congestion you could even replace the eucalyptus and peppermint with any of your favorite scents to create an aromatherapy shower melt!

(be sure to check with your doctor before using any essential oils)

Supplies for DIY Shower Melts:

    n

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • n

  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • n

  • 3/4 cup witch hazel
  • n

  • 20 drops of Essential oils (I used eucalyptus and peppermint with a dash of lemon)
  • n

  • Silicone mold or muffin tin
  • n

n

How to make the melts:

n

Mix your dry ingredients together in a bowl. Add in the witch hazel very slowly and try to break up any clumps. Then, add in your essential oils. Pour your mixture in your molds or muffin tin, and freeze them overnight! I let mine dry out completely for at least 24 hours. That’s it! You just made a super easy, all-natural shower melt!

nn

I store my shower melts in an airtight container and keep some back stocked in my fridge! I recommend putting these away from the direct stream of water so they have time to slowly melt and steam.

n

Isn’t that so easy?? They work so well as a decongestant and smell amazing! Try this recipe for yourself and let me know how it worked!
